The Mask of Ego is an amazing journey. A great example of an artist utilizing every tool at their disposal, while still retaining a pleasing minimalism. The slow, churning bass pulse at the beginning of this release is like a short film in front of a sprawling epic. An unrelated work on the surface, it lends an added clarity and cohesiveness to the overall. Wrapping around from side a and covering side b is an intensely evocative field recording of a city scene. In the way that classical composers wrote pastoral music to bring to mind rolling hills, LEFTERNA uses these stereo recordings to imply blight but still retain some hope. There is no despair here, only focus.
